My son recently hosted his first sleepover for many of his friends. It was perfect! I took some of the Global Sleepover ideas and the kids loved it. We did everything in a Brazilian theme! As a parent, you will also have a smile on your face because of the fun!
Our Digital Storytelling Summer Camps will be held at the Gateway Media Arts Lab located in Mount Rainier, MD on the border of NE DC and Maryland.
The Gateway Media Arts Lab is a Media Lab dedicated to interactive storytelling and home to creative media professionals.
Gateway Media Arts Lab is conveniently located on Rhode Island Avenue, on the border of NE DC and MD, close to major neighborhoods in both DC and MD. The location is a 10-15 minute drive from Brookland/Catholic University, Brentwood, MD, Riverdale, MD and the Hyattsville, MD shops and restaurants. It’s a 20-25 minute drive from Howard University / Shah, Petworth, Adams Morgan and College Park, MD.

We request parents send a non-perishable lunch, snacks and/or water bottle every day. Please label food, snacks and water bottle. We will provide some snacks and drinks but will not have enough for each snack period. We will not have regular access to vending machines, refrigerators, or microwaves. Lunch will either be indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather and activities.
$175 per child for a one-week session.

Children that are not enrolled in After Care and who are not picked up by 3:30pm will be put into After Care and parents will be charged accordingly.
After Care: $50 After Camp Care
The rate for After Care is $50 per week for each child, regardless of how many days the child participates in After Care.
We offer After Care from 3:30pm – 6:00pm. The rate is $50 per week for each child regardless of the number of days. Children who are registered for after care must be picked up by 6:00PM. Sign-up for After Care at time of registration.
Early-drop off at 8:00am is possible, please discuss with us at time of registration.

Global Sleepover is proud to be housed in the wonderful community of Mount Rainier, MD and Prince George’s County. We proudly support and serve our community members in any way we can. We would like to offer digital storytelling camp slots to students from Mount Rainier, MD and the surrounding areas in Prince George’s County, MD. Unfortunately, for some children in our area, the cost of our camp is cost-prohibitive. For this reason, we are partnering with local individuals and communities for sponsorship to allow children from our community to attend the camp. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please contact bookings@globalsleepover.com. Sponsorship needs include:
- Camp fees to offer scholarships to students from disadvantaged communities who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend.
- Food and snacks.
- Staging, props and/or raw material to build projects.
- Technology equipment such as: used iPads, 3-d printer and biodegradable ink, video camera, camera, recording devices.

Can I read about and see pictures from other camps and workshops you've done?
How many students are in each camp session?
We try to cap each camp session at 15 kids but can accept more kids on a case-by-case basis.
What does an average day at camp look like?
Each camper will, throughout the course of the camp session, create his/her digital storybook. This storybook will be created during each day of camp and presented to parents in the afternoon on the last day of camp.
Each day will consist of a combination of the following activities:
- Time outdoors
- Activities and games
- Classroom learning time when campers learn how to write, design, illustrate, create videos, add sound to and animate stories. The learning is progressive.
- Snacks and lunch
- Art projects
- If schedule permits, we will take a field trip on the Wednesday of the week.
What is the age range for your summer camp?
Our Digital Storytelling Summer Camps are for ages 6-9. We are willing to accept children younger and/or older on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at bookings@globalsleepover.com with this request.
How do participants get to and from camp?
Campers must provide their own transportation to and from camp. There will be a supervised drop-off and pick-up of campers with authorized adults at each location. Instructions and directions will be included in the welcome package to be sent to parents before sessions begin.
We will provide transportation for any field trips.
When can I drop-off and pick-up my camper?
Camp starts at 8:30am and ends at 3:00pm Our staff will be on hand to receive campers beginning at 8:30am. If parents drop off children after 9:00am, we request parents escort the camper to the classroom.

What should my child wear?
Please ensure campers are dressed in comfortable clothing that can be worn during craft activities, playing and walking outside. Comfortable walking shoes with socks are recommended. Please apply and send sunscreen and/or umbrellas when needed.

What if my child needs medication?
Please provide any medication your child will need throughout the week to the camp staff on registration the first day. Our staff is not allowed to dispense medication; all must be self-administered.
Who are your teachers?
Camp teachers are Global Sleepover staff that have been trained in storytelling and technology.
When can we see the work the campers produce?
We will hold a presentation session for parents on the last day of the camp, a Friday, in the afternoon.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
A 75% refund will be issued if the request is received in writing/mail 3 weeks before the camp session begins. Refunds after this point will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Camps may be transferable if there are open slots.
Is there a code of conduct expected from campers?
We promote an inclusive, engaged and interactive environment where each camper has a space and member of our community. Values we promote are mutual respect, patience, critical thinking, imagination and creativity, physical fitness, and conscious technology.
Can I sign my children up for 2-3 days only?
No. We request campers sign-up for the full session to receive the most out of the camp and to complete their own digital story. Please send us an email in case of specific circumstances; we are willing to consider on a case-by-case basis
Does my child have to bring his/her own phone or tablet?
We do not require this; however, if your child has a mobile phone, laptop and/or tablet that he/she is allowed to bring, it will be helpful if he/she brings it to the first day of camp.

Sleepovers, sleepovers, sleepovers. That’s all my 7-year old ever talks about! 🙂 She dreams about sleepovers, especially the kind that take her to faraway places with new friends. She loves learning about other countries, trying out different languages, and dressing up in clothing from other places. The Global Sleepover has exposed her to so much of this, I feel like she is already a Global Sleepover Ambassador in training 🙂
